About this crossing

Whirlpool Bridge is the third of the Niagara crossings and the most restricted of the three. It runs between Niagara Falls, Ontario and Niagara Falls, New York on the site of an older railway bridge, and it serves a narrow set of traffic, with the commercial lane frequently closed outright. CBP does not always report a commercial reading here, and when it does the lane may be closed rather than merely quiet. This site shows a closed or unreported lane as exactly that. Neither is a zero-minute wait, and a carrier treating either as clear would be relying on a number that does not exist. For practical routing the Niagara corridor means the Peace Bridge at Fort Erie or the Lewiston-Queenston bridge to the north. Whirlpool is worth knowing as a fact about the river rather than as an option for a load, and it is minutes from both of the crossings that are.
