About this crossing

Jackman is the inland crossing on the Maine-Quebec line, and it is a different animal from the Calais ports. Route 201 runs north from Skowhegan through the Moose River valley to the border here, on the Canadian side becoming Route 173 into Saint-Georges-de-Beauce. That route is the reason the port exists. It is the direct line between interior Maine and the Beaufort region of Quebec, and it saves a carrier running that corridor from dropping down to the coast. What it is not is a high-volume port. It is a small crossing on a two-lane road through country with very little on it, and the nearest alternative is a long way in any direction. Plan fuel and hours accordingly. There is nothing resembling a truck stop at either approach for a considerable distance, and a delay here is not something a driver can wait out at a nearby plaza.
