About this crossing

Derby Line is the Interstate 91 crossing between Vermont and Quebec, and it is the direct route between southern New England and Sherbrooke, Quebec. Where I-91 ends in Vermont, the road continues into Quebec, which makes this the freeway crossing for the eastern half of the Vermont-Quebec line. That is the corridor it serves: Hartford and Springfield to Sherbrooke and on toward Quebec City. Volume is moderate rather than heavy, because the route carries regional freight rather than the long-haul traffic that uses Champlain to the west. The port is sized for that and clears steadily. Derby Line, Vermont and Stanstead, Quebec sit on either side, and services are limited but present. The surrounding country is rural on both sides and the alternatives are a distance away, so a delay here is not easily worked around. It is a freeway crossing in a small-town setting.
