About this crossing

Ogdensburg is the St Lawrence crossing between northern New York and Prescott, Ontario, and it is one of a chain of river ports that includes Massena to the east and the Thousand Islands crossing to the west. Each of them serves a stretch of the river, and for the stretch around Ogdensburg this is the crossing. The port sits on the route that connects the North Country to Highway 401, Ontario's main east-west corridor. That link is what makes it useful to a carrier: it offers a way onto the 401 from northern New York without going through the larger crossings, which makes it a genuine alternative when the bigger ports are congested. Ogdensburg itself is a small city with port facilities on the American side, and Prescott is a small town on the Canadian side. The crossing is short and the approach is direct. Services are available in both places, though limited, and the surrounding country is rural in every direction.
