About this crossing

Milltown is the third of the Calais-area crossings and the one that sits furthest from the downtown core. It shares the St Croix River with Ferry Point and International Avenue, and all three are within a few minutes of each other, which is the single most useful thing to know about any of them. A port this size carries intermittent commercial traffic rather than a steady lane, and CBP does not always have a reading to publish. When the figure here is absent, that is an unmeasured lane and not a clear one. The practical move is to check the other two Calais ports rather than assume this one is open and empty. For a carrier running between eastern Maine and southwestern New Brunswick, the three ports together are what matters. Treating Calais as one crossing rather than three is how a driver ends up in a queue that a five-minute detour would have avoided.
