How to read this page
Every figure here carries its own date and its own unit, and they do not all move on the same clock. Diesel steps once a week, on the NRCan and EIA survey prints. The dollar moves every business day. Border waits change through the day. A barometer that looks flat can still be hiding a week's fuel move, and one number moving does not mean the others did.
The North American index is the one figure that pools both countries: the Canadian ten-province average and the US national average, each counted once at equal weight. It is a way to see the continent at a glance, not a price anyone pays. Nothing is bought at the index.
Direction is stated rather than implied. Where a figure is a level and not a movement, it says so instead of showing an arrow that means nothing.
