About this crossing

Lynden is a Washington-BC crossing east of Blaine, sitting on the road between Lynden, Washington and Aldergrove, British Columbia. It is one of a cluster of crossings in the Fraser valley, and it shares the lower mainland freight market with Blaine's two ports and with Sumas. For commercial traffic it serves a specific purpose: it gives a route into the Canadian side that avoids the congestion of the Pacific Highway and Peace Arch at Blaine. A carrier moving between the BC interior and the American northwest can use it as an alternative when the main ports are backed up, and it is close enough that the decision can be made at the last minute. The approach on the American side runs through farmland and small towns rather than freeway, and the Canadian side connects toward the Trans-Canada. Services exist in Lynden and in the surrounding BC communities. Volume is moderate, which is exactly what makes it useful when Blaine is not.
