Across the line

Diesel crosses the border, but the number does not. The Canadian side is published per litre and the American side per gallon.

Regina · Canadian side252.5¢/L
Rocky Mountain · the US district next door$6.422/gal

The American figure is the EIA weekly retail survey — published as $6.422/gal this week — shown the way an American carrier reads it, with the Canadian-dollar equivalent beside it once the page loads. A gallon is not a litre, so these two lines measure the same fuel in different units and the cents will never match. What does compare is the market: a load crossing into Rocky Mountain buys its fuel on the other side of a border.

Regina runs 11.8¢ below the national index — a real difference on a 500-litre fill. Work out a trip

What drives Regina prices

Regina is the provincial capital, sitting where the Trans-Canada Highway meets Highway 6. Agriculture and Bakken oil anchor the local economy, and the city is home to a major refinery complex. That refinery sits right in the market it serves. For a carrier this is a capital city with a fuel plant in its own backyard, on a junction that carries both grain and oil traffic. The combination of a refinery and two crossing highways is what defines how this market runs.
