What drives St. John's prices
St. John's is the provincial capital and the easternmost market in Canada. No refinery sits on the island. All fuel arrives by sea, which keeps prices among the highest in Canada. For a carrier this is the end of the line, a market that runs on fuel shipped across open water with no domestic refining to soften the cost. The capital's size and its place at the far eastern edge do not change that arithmetic. Sea freight sets the price here.
