Manitoba diesel prices
Across the line
Diesel crosses the border, but the number does not. The Canadian side is published per litre and the American side per gallon.
The American figure is the EIA weekly retail survey — published as $6.407/gal this week — shown the way an American carrier reads it, with the Canadian-dollar equivalent beside it. A gallon is not a litre, so these two lines measure the same fuel in different units and the cents will never match. What does compare is the market: a load crossing at Rocky Mountain buys its fuel somewhere else.

What drives Manitoba prices
Manitoba is the smallest survey on this site: two cities, Winnipeg and Brandon, and they are close enough together that the provincial average is nearly an Edmonton-to-Winnipeg freight story rather than a provincial one. In the Natural Resources Canada print dated 29 September 2026 the province averaged 246.9 cents per litre, 14.0 cents below the national index of 260.9, which puts it among the cheapest in the country.
The reason is position. Manitoba sits between the Alberta refining complex and the Ontario market, and a good deal of fuel moving east through the province does not stop there. Winnipeg is a distribution point on the way to somewhere else, and a market that exists partly to pass product through tends to price closer to the wholesale side than a market that exists only to consume.
The thinness of the sample is worth understanding before you use the number. Two cities is not a provincial picture. It is Winnipeg and Brandon, and a carrier running the Trans-Canada west of Portage la Prairie or the northern route to Thompson is not buying in either. What the figure is genuinely good for is direction. If Manitoba's average moves, Winnipeg moved, and Winnipeg is where most of the province's fuel is bought.
One caution on every figure here. The NRCan survey measures posted retail rather than cardlock, so your actual cost is usually below the posted average. Plan a specific fill from your card price and use this number to see which way the province is heading.

Every price is an NRCan survey observation from the print dated Tue, 29 Sep 2026. The provincial figure is the unweighted mean of these 2 cities, the same figure that enters the Northern Mile Diesel Index. Prices include all federal and provincial fuel, carbon, and sales taxes.
